Abstract

Peyami Safa, one of the prominent names of the Republican era Turkish novel, has a considerable reputation not only in the field of novels, but also in the field of journalism and intellectual works. The writer kept the tradition in the face of keeping the tradition in the face of the Westernization dreams in his time and especially in his novels in revealing the need of a society, who went uneasy between East and West, to the tradition. In Fatih-Harbiye, one of the bright results of this effort, the author used leitmotiv as a leitmotiv by repeating some of the abbreviations representing the tradition in various ways, and in this way, he made the intellectual ground of the work more effective and evident. While Fatih district as an open space in the novel and coffee shops as an indoor space point to traditional life with their symbolic values; black and white colors are used to hide the precious from the eyes and represent innocence, and the sounds of azan, cradle creak and halvah as remixes of religious and cultural values. In this study, the presentation of the space, color and sound elements that remind the tradition in the mentioned novel of Safa with leitmotiv technique will be emphasized.
