Abstract

The academic profession is a conscientious profession based on internality that requires education, training, lifelong development, socialization, research and questioning, and has many individual and social benefits. In this context, the academic citizenship behavior is the embodiment of organizational citizenship behavior, which means working beyond responsibilities resulting from the relevant contract, in the academic field. The academic profession is an area of practice based on the academic citizenship behavior, and the quality of academics is directly proportional to the value given to academics. Unfortunately, the regulations and practices of the current education system in Turkey have turned the academic profession, which is known as craftsmanship, into a commodity that has lost its sanctity. In this context, this study aims to discuss studies on academic citizenship behaviors and the problems related to regulations and implementations at the higher education institutions and universities in Turkey.
