DETERMINING THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE PERSPECTIVES OF INDIVIDUALS RESIDENT IN ERZURUM ON GOING ON VACATION AND RURAL TOURISM

Abstract

People need vacations during some periods of the year due to hard work and stress. Especially, the long winter season and the cold climate in Erzurum province increase people’s need for going on vacation to hot regions in certain times of the year. Also, people prefer escaping the noisy environment of the city and going sightseeing, having fun, getting abundant oxygen, and eating plenty of natural food in the quiet or comfort of the vicinity or far places. In this study, some of the characteristics of the families living in Erzurum city and investigate the effects of these characteristics on the regions where these families can go on vacation. The study tries to determine whether individuals participate in tourism activities in regions that have many rural tourism activities. In the study, the sample size has been determined using the simple random sampling method based on the main mass ratios. In the questionnaire which included 25 questions, about rural tourism and besides the expectations of the people from tourism. In the study, 400 individuals were interviewed and probit method was used in the analysis of the factors effective on vacation. The factors that affect the families' going on holiday are medium and high household revenue, to be women of person giving the holiday decision, to be low of the number of individuals in the household, to be the sea in the holiday place, and the desire to have a medium or long holiday. There are needed to entrepreneurship activities for create job opportunities for young population, to benefit from rural tourism resources and to turn people's savings into production in Erzurum province.
