Abstract

As in many parts of the world and within the borders of the Ottoman Empire, in the Demirci district, illegal events such as roadblocking, looting, murder, kidnapping, assault, counterfeiting, and misconduct have been encountered through the history. The rulers of the Ottoman Empire went through taking measures to prevent such illegal events and applied various punishment methods such as exile, prison, imprisonment in the castle, rowing, and execution according to the type of crime. In addition to this, it is determined that it is not possible to prevent the events in parallel with the troubles during the periods of stagnation and decline of the Ottoman Empire, as well as the spread of illegal events in many regions of the country. In the article, from the middle of the XVI. century to the end of the XVIII. century, the Demirci district and the illegal events concerning the locals were addressed, and the documents, especially the "Muhimme Books", recorded in various classifications obtained from the Presidential Ottoman Archive were used. We believe that with this study, the events, especially in the Demirci district, that occurred between the periods of mid XVI. century and the end of the XVIII. century, their effects and the general situation of the Ottoman Empire will be revealed.
