The purpose of our study is to investigate the preference reasons and expectations of accounting department students from the department. In accordance with this purpose, survey method was applied to 104 students studying in Accounting department of Fırat University Vocational School of Social Sciences by face-to-face interview in 2018-2019 academic year. Frequency, arithmetic mean, anova and t test was used while analyzing the data obtained. According to the results of the analysis, the accounting department is in the range of 1-5 in the order of preference of the accounting department students. This result shows us students prefer the profession willingly and to be more knowledgeable with accounting field. The greatest expectations of the students from the accounting department is to make increased their self-confidences by the department. Moreover, according to the result of t test applied, there is a significant difference between the expectation levels of female and male students from accounting department. The expectation levels of female students are higher.
