Among our traditional arts, the embroideries reflect the richness of our culture with their technique, pattern and diversity of composition. Turkish people are attentive to the aesthetic value of all their objects which will be used in daily life and on special days. Afyonkarahisar embroidery is a good example as it contains all such features. There are outstanding examples of the art of embroidery in clothing and casual objects. Techniques such as hesap işi, broken-wire embroidery, wire wrapping, dival work, preset technique are applied in Afyonkarahisar embroidery, and silk, cotton, gold and silver threads are used in some embroideries. Sateen, silk, cotton, linen, cotton-linen woven fabrics are preferred. The application of traditional embroidery techniques has been decreased and replaced by machine embroidery. Some public institutions and organizations make an effort for traditional embroidery techniques to continue via the courses that they have opened. This research has utilized the method of field research and identified the technical and artistic features of the embroideries found in some chests and collections. The purpose of the research is to ensure that the information to be obtained will be a source for the new research in the future. In the conclusion, the data obtained was assessed, and some suggestions were put forward for sustaining the art of embroidery.
