Mass customization is the ability to produce personalized products nearly at mass production costs and offer them to customers at reasonable prices thanks to flexible production systems and product-process configurations. While personalized products and services increase the demand for a company’s product range, it is clear that variety complicates the activities in the “design-production-assembly-distribution” value chain and increases the costs. The success of mass customization depends on the balance between how much the customer intends to pay and wait for innovative and customized products and enterprise’s ability to produce the requested product in a reasonable time and at a reasonable cost. In establishing this balance, variety management strategies shows how the product designs that enable high variety in the market should be and how to minimize the tradeoff between costs and variety by ensuring the flexibility of production and distribution systems. From this point of view, aim of this study is to exhibit variety management strategies’ contribution to mass customization production system. For his reason, we utilize former literatüre as well.
