Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the fifth grade science course textbook used in 2017-2018 education year according to the opinions of science teachers. The study was carried out using a quantitative survey method. 134 science teachers working in different middle schools in the Malatya province constitute the teacher's sample. The science book evaluation scale was used in the study. The scale consists of 26 items, including design-order, content, language-expression and evaluation dimensions The required validity and reliability study was performed on the generated scale and the Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient was found to be 0.941. Analysis of the data was made using SPSS. In the evaluation of the statistical process performed according to the dimensions determined in the fifth grade science textbook, it was shown that there was no statistically significant difference by means of gender, occupational seniority and the participants in the determined dimensions generally participated moderately. The findings show that the number of questions in the textbook should be increased and the misconceptions of the topics in the units should be given in the course book. Recommendations have been made for an effective science textbook.
