Abstract

The aim of this article is to study the reflections of Hofmann's and Belling's tenets on Turkish plastic arts and artists. Books, exhibition catalogues, articles, published papers, internet and interviews are referred as the primary resources for gathering information about the study. The findings, -recorded with analyzing and synthesizing methods- is the tenets of these two German artists had great impact on modernization of Turkish plastic arts as an impulse. The relation between Germany and German artists with Turkey and art in the Ottoman period mentioned briefly at the beginning of the article and at the main body, artists attending Hofmann's studio, their influence on modernization of Turkish painting after returning Turkey; as well as Belling coming to Turkey with the invitation from the Turkish government, coordinating the sculpture department at the Fine Arts Academy and influencing students with his art and tenet resulting modernization and abstraction in Turkish sculpture discussed with several examples.
