Abstract

This study aims to measure the influence of the communication skills of vocational college students, who are educated in the field of tourism which is one of the important sectors that need communication skills, on the tendency to stay in tourism sector. Survey technique, which is one of the quantitative research method, was used in this research and Mugla Sitki Kocaman University Ortaca Vocational College was determined as target population. As a result of the survey study conducted on 315 students, it was determined that 'communication principles and basic skills' factor has a significant effect on the occupational outlook. It was also found that 'communication principles and basic skills', 'self-expression' and 'willingness to communicate' factors have a significant effect on the tendency to make profession. Moreover, there is no significant difference in communication skills, but there are negative development on the tendency to view the profession and the tendency to make profession in terms of the classes of students. In the result part of the research, suggestions are made for the development of communication skills and vocational training depending on the findings.
