Abstract

To the north of Banaz district is Murat Mountain and forest areas. The south of the Banaz district lays the Banaz plain. Ayvacık mound is an important Bronze Age settlement located on the rugged terrain in the south east of Banaz. Ayvacık mound is located in Ayvacık village, 16 km south east of Banaz. Ada mound, another settlement located in the Ayvacık village, gives Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age artifacts. Ayvacık mound is important for the finds showing the cultural continuity of the Early Bronze Age (EBA 1-2-3) and the Middle Bronze Age. Ayvacık mound strategically controls the natural route connecting Afyonkarahisar-Hocalar and Banaz. It is one of the major settlements of the region with an area of about 400 meters. The findings of the settlement reveal the relations with the settlement of Afyonkarahisar Kusura and Denizli Beycesultan. With the archaeological excavation to be done here, important results will be reached in illuminating the Bronze Age of the region.
