Abstract

Children in need of special education are at greater risk than peers in achieving equal and quality education. Healthy assesment, , correct diagnosis and placement and monitoring activities are crucial to prevent this risk. In order for the desired effects to be achieved with the special education services covering these activities, it is necessary to work with a team of interdisciplinaries, including the family. Social workers are also considered among the professions to be included in the special education services team in the literature of our country and all over the world and the effects of effective and efficient service delivery has been proven by research findings. However, according to the legislation of our special education services, our country is not counted as a permanent and necessary member of the special education services team which also includes social workers schools. With this article, it is aimed to clarify the effects of social workers within the team of special education services at the guidance and research centers of the researchers and their role in the early and correct diagnosis and monitoring of the children in need of special education, and their full potential reaching to the highest level.
