PERCEPTIONS OF ACADEMICIANS REGARDING THE CONCEPT OF GRATITUDE

Abstract

The research was conducted in order to determine perceptions of academicians who work in the faculty of education regarding the concept of gratitude. A total of 19 academicians participated in the research. Data was collected using a structured interview form composed of two questions. Content validity, internal validity and external validity was checked to ensure the validity the research. External and internal reliability was checked to ensure the research reliability. Data were analyzed using “content analysis.” The findings were presented under two sections: (a) when it comes to gratitude, concepts that first come to mind, (b) definitions of what is gratitude. As a result of the research, it was found that academicians make mistake about concept and descriptions of what gratitude is and mistaken gratitude for the term of indebtedness which involves negative feeling and discomfort for human.
