THE ROLE OF TRANSLATION ACTIVITIES THE ARABIC ISLAMIC DATA TAKEN TO EUROPE IN ABBASID STATE, THE FIRST, ERA BİRİNCİ ABBASİ DEVLET-İ DÖNEMİNDE ARAPÇA İSLÂMÎ BİLGİLERİN AVRUPA’YA TAŞINMASINDA TERCÜME FAALİYETLERİNİN ROLÜ
As Islam attaches importance to scholarship, Muslim Arabs place emphases on translation which is one of the ways of learning scholarship, as well. At first, since regular translation activities do not exist, these activities remain limited to only a few books on greek medicine, chemistry, stars and wars that were translated to Arabic from Greek philosophers in Emevi period. Hâlit b. Yezîd b. Muâviye’s personal effort became starting point for translation activities to Arabic and a torch that enlightens the way of Muslim scholars. After this period, translation activities with ups and downs, finally reached its peak point in Abbasid caliphate Harun er-Reşid’s era which considered as hey-day not only for civilization but also for culture. Beytu’l-Hikme, which was reformed more in Halife el-Me’mûn’s term, became translation, duplication and research institute in time after Harun er-Reşid.
