Abstract

Sarıkamış operation is a natural consequence of the political and military alliance which was established by Ottoman Empire with the Germany. The Ottoman Third Army implements this operation. This army consists of 9, 10, 11th Corps and the 2nd Cavalry Division. 3rd Army and 9 Corps headquarters were arbitration in the Erzurum Castle, 9th Corps in Elazığ Castle and 10th Corps in Sivas. In First World War, Sarıkamış operation is the most important part of the Caucasian Front in which the Ottoman Empire tried to take back the ottoman territory that had been lost in the Russian War, 1877-1878 and maintained contact with the Turks living in captivity in Central Asia. As a result of Sarıkamıs operation, The Turkish military gave serious losses. There are important lessons to be drawn where operations can be defined as the first major defeat of the Ottoman Empire in the First World War. This article has tried to focus on the general characteristics of Sarıkamıs Operation.
