Abstract

This work covers the siege of Ağriboz Island by Venetians with blockade depending on the Ottoman archive documents and their withdrawal not overcoming the Ottoman defense. The Venetians, one of the holly alliance states seized some of the Ottoman cities moving from Dalmatia shores, Mora and Bosnia. The Venetians who moved on to Athens from Mora couldn’t keep going when Halil Pasha was appointed as commander in chief for the region around Thessaloniki. The Venetians moved on to Ağriboz Island and Castle connected to the land with a bridge changing target. The Venetian admiral Morosini landed on the island with many ships and army troops in July 1688. The siege lasting for nearly 100 days, ended with failure as a result of the Ottoman forces commanded by Çelebi İbrahim Pasha and castle people’s outstanding efforts. After the withdrawal of the Venetians damage assessment was made and the island was cheered.
