Abstract

In the spring of 1960, the university students of the period which aimed to overthrow the Democratic Party power were in a struggle for organizing and activism, while the communist movement was disorganized and powerless. The aim of this study is to explain the positions of the student movement and communist movement, and the conditions that make impossible the contact of these two movements based on its exposition in Bir Gün Tek Başına. Throughout the study, assessments of the aesthetic aspect of the text was avoided. The real life equivalent of the novel’s person, the main issues and discussions in the novel was examined by referring to historical and sociological sources, and it was concluded that the author remained true to realty in many respects. Approach of university youth about organizing practice and left view revealed in the discussions experienced during the search for organizing alternative to legal student organizations that fail to mobilize the student movement, and also their political attitudes and positions that become evident in moments of agency are described in detail in the novel. Besides, it is exhibited that communist movement which was a small group that based on tradition of the Communist Party of Turkey doesn’t have an opportunity about point the way to dynamism of youth because of deprivation of legitimacy and social base of left-wing politics and this movement has to contented with remote viewing the student revolt.
