Abstract

This study aims to enlighten the reader about the Turkish defence and the British attack on Baghdad relating to the fall of Baghdad on its 100th year. By the surrendering of British troops on 29 April 1916, the work of reorganisation had been vigorously put forward by the British Government, and by December, the British was ready to resume the offensive towards Baghdad. Meanwhile, the Turkish General Staff could not take enough advantage of the success of Kut-al-Amara and sent a large amount of troops from Iraq to Persia in order to safeguard the rear of the Sixth Army against possible Russian advance. This move led to the gradual diminuation of the numbers of the Turkish troops in the Tigris Front. Although the Turkish forces put up a strong resistance, the British forces had managed to enter Baghdad on March 11th, 1917.
