Abstract

The last Abbasi Vizier Ibn al-Alkami was a vizier for 13 years in Abbasi State. During the reign of al-Musta’sim Billah, especially in the last years of the state, the Abbasid state was in a very bad situation. There was no unity between the statesmen and they were constantly struggling with each other. Meanwhile, there was an intense struggle between the two closest statesmen to the caliphate. Mucahideddin Aybek was an important member of the government and a member of the Hanbali sect. The vizier Ibn al-Alkami continued to exist as a member of the Shi'a sect. There was a sectarian conflict among the public as well as a sectarian conflict among these people. In 1251, Hulagu was sent west by his brother Mongke to take over Iran and to control the Abbasid state. Hulagu took the Assassins out of the way and headed for Baghdad. Taking advantage of these internal conflicts in the Abbasid State, he took Baghdad on February 10, 1258.
