Abstract

This study examines Trabzonspor fans’ perceptions of Avni Aker Stadium (the first home ground of the club) and Şenol Güneş Sports Complex (the new stadium being built in Akyazı). The study sample consists of a total of 357 fans; 130 women, 227 men. Data were collected using questionnaire forms composed of two parts; demographic features and fan perception. Question statements were nominally developed with multiple options. Frequency distribution tables were constructed for each question and a chi-square test was performed to determine whether fans’ responses to questions differed by demographic characteristics. When the expected frequencies were less than 5, the Likelihood Ratio-square value (LR χ2), instead of the Pearson chi-square value (χ2), was calculated. Data were statistically analyzed using the SPSS, version 24, at a significance level of α = 5%. Results indicate that there is a statistically significant difference in the variables of “wearing the team's jersey during a game,” “the most important feeling you have when you enter Avni Aker Stadium,” “demolition of Avni Aker Stadium,” “Şenol Güneş Stadium’s remoteness from the city center” and “the belief that Şenol Güneş Stadium will bring good luck” (p<0.05). There is no statistically significant difference in the variable of “the effect of “Şenol Güneş Stadium’s remoteness from the city center on the nature of the bond between team and fan” (p>0.05).
