Abstract

Since the 1980s; increasing globalization, obligation to be integrated of countries with the world, prominent competition have increased the importance of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). Therefore, especially developing countries aimed for encouraging foreign direct investments. Foreign direct investments (FDI) bring economic growth and development, employment increase, technology transfer and trading volume increase with it. Additionally, developing countries subsidise their external debt by means of foreign direct investment. In spite of the fact that foreign direct investments in our country have been increased especially in recent years, Turkey has lagged far behind its potential to attract foreign direct investment inflows. In this study; Turkey, Hungary and Poland have been compared with the potential to attract foreign direct investments. Besides, direct investment indices that compare countries in terms of investment appeal have been explained.
