Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the emotional abuse level, perception and opinions of the students of the child development department. Mixed research method was used in this study. Quantitative data were obtained from 136 students in Bilecik Şeyh Edebali University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Child Development and qualitative data from 40 students. It was seen that the average of emotional abuse points of the students is 134,75 and the highest average belongs to the first grade students. It was found that there was a significant difference between emotional abuse and the location. Most of the students describe emotional abuse as ignoring/despising the emotions of others and the main factor causing emotional abuse is to put pressure on others emotionally/psychologically. Most of students stated that the children were exposed to emotional abuse by their parents through comparison with peers, child discrimination, indifference and scolding.
