THE PERCEPTION OF LOCAL PUBLIC TOURISM AND CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE CONTEXT OF A NEW DEVELOPING CITY: A SURVEY BASED ASSESSMENT FOR THE OSMANIYE REGION

Abstract
In spite of sufficient potential in terms of cultural heritage and tourism, some regions and provinces do not use this potential adequately. Osmaniye is one of our young provinces which has just become a new province and is currently realizing its economic and social progress. Although it is a young province, Osmaniye has many historical and touristic ruins whose historical origins are very old. The promotion of tourism potentials in Osmaniye and the efforts to develop destinations are being developed with the efforts of public institutions and organizations. Tourism perception of the people of Osmaniye, which has rich cultural and tourism values, is important in terms of accelerating the development. This study was conducted to reveal the perceptions of the people of Osmaniye about tourism and cultural heritage. The aim of this course is to reveal the views of the people on cultural heritage and tourism, how to evaluate these potentials and how the tourism will change the socio-economic structure of the province. As a result of the survey, it was found that the people of Osmaniye did not have enough information about cultural heritage and tourism, that the development of tourism could not be sufficient for the development of Osmaniye and that they had some hesitations in terms of social tourism despite their positive views on cultural tourism.
