RECOGNITION OF PUBLIC RELATIONS STUDIES IN NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN PUBLIC OPINION AND ITS EFFECT ON RAISING AWARENESS: TOFD EXAMPLE


Public relations is a set of activities which are carried out to create a positive image by interacting with the target groups which all institutions, organizations and foundations need. Civil Society Organizations need public relations activities so as to introduce themselves and to provide trust for the public interest with the social responsibility awareness of their work and to make their beneficial work common to the society. Most CSOs are facing troubles in realizing public relations activities properly. Thus, so as to to examine the impact on CSOs public relations activities of awareness and social awareness, the Turkish Association of Paraplegia (TOFD) carried out an empirical and analytical work, the adequacy and accuracy of the activities of public relations which has made the organization investigated. It has been tried to determine which channels are used and how the results are obtained while conducting these activities, focusing on the lack of awareness of recognition, and what has to be done regarding it. In this article, Media Monitoring Center database was used, 250 people were surveyed and followers and liking statistics on social media accounts of the Association were included in the evaluation. As a result of these evaluations, the inadequacy of TOFD's work in this field and the interactive communication strategies which need to be implemented are stated as a set of suggestions.
