Abstract

Tourism sector closely related with many sectors. Developments in the field of alternative tourism mass tourism began to stand out in a remarkable way in recent years. In tourism activities in rural areas which local cuisine, cultural interaction, orientation to rest from the city to rural areas opening the door to developments in different areas. One of these that called olive or olive oil tourism. In this context, both Turkey and in mediterranean countries such as Italy and Spain where the culture of olive production and consumption is high, olive and olive oil tourism have an income-generating alternative tourism and this situtation has a big potential for Turkey. Turkey is among the top five countries in the world in the production of olives and olive oil. More than half of the number of olive trees is located in the Aegean region of Turkey and more than 20% of the olive fields in the Aegean region are located in Muğla. It is located 2/3 of the olive fields of Muğla province in Milas district. Also, Milas district have the largest olive area of Turkey. In addition, Milas has the potential to become a niche market with olive tourism. In this study, olive tourism potential and evaluation possibilities has discussed in terms of supporting development in Milas district. World examples has taken into consideration to develop the opinion on olive tourism in the district.
