Abstract

Didim, one of the tourism cities of Turkey, has not got the attention that it deserves in tourism compared to other rival tourism cities. In addition to sea, sand, sun, and historical attractions, by featuring local foods prepared with olive accepted as one of the Mediterranean trio and seen its cultural traces from prehistoric times to days and it’s oil, it will be taken advantage of the economic, cultural, social, and environmental benefits of the local food in Didim. For this, firstly, local foods prepared with olive and olive oil need to be identified. The aim of this study is to identify the local foods prepared with olive and olive oil in Didim. To the end, data were obtained from the inhabitants who came from the Balkans and settled in Didim, via qualitative data collection techniques and were analysed using descriptive analysis method. The study’s results revealed that olive oil constitutes the main element of the inhabitants’ culinary culture and many foods like soups, salads, herb roasts, pastries, main courses, desserts, and mezze are prepared with olive oil. The results will be useful to administrators who want to enhance destination image.
