This study focuses on language usage on Twitter. Twitter is one of the most used social networks with increasing number of users day by day and it is a virtual environment where people come from different segments and different social strata. Undoubtedly, there will also be differences in language usage in such an environment. As a matter of fact, these differences and the emerging new situation brought new debates to the agenda and caused disagreements. One side argues that the language used randomly in the social media causes a degeneration in the language, while the other argues that the language used in social media is different from the written language used to date and that this difference is not considered degeneration. This study focuses on the causes of language use rather than truth or falsity of the language used on Twitter. Selected sample tweets are reviewed and evaluated. The profile photos and contact addresses of the owners of these tweets are hidden because of their personal rights. The case study, which is one of the qualitative research designs, has been used in the research. The universe of the work is social networks and the sample is Twitter. In the analysis of the data, content analysis was applied.
