Abstract

This study examines the role of the concept of social capital in national innovation policies. Knowledge becomes the most important factor of production in today’s world, countries have become dependent on innovations to provide economic growth, global competitiveness, and wealth. The creation of an innovative process, the formation of innovation culture, the increase in innovation performance in a country depends on effective policies of innovation. The innovation process is a dynamic and social process. The concept of social capital, which emphasizes the importance of social relations, plays a role in facilitating information sharing among actors in the innovation process. Also, the network structure between the actors is another important factor. Social capital helps the efficient operation of innovation system, and innovation policies by strengthening collective activities with trust factor. The role of social capital varies depending on the structure of social capital and the national innovation system.
