Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate the nationalist theories of modernist perspective. In this context, present work’s main subject is the modernist theoretical approaches to nationalism based on the main concepts and terms of nation and nationalism studies. In this direction, it has been focused on a comparative reading of attempts to analyze of nation and nationalism phenomenon within the historical developmenst of modernist theoretical studies of nationalism. In the beginning, ‘modernity’s conceptual framework was stated to set out the relationship between modernity and nationalism, for a proper analysis. Then, the principal names of modernist theories of nationalism, Ernest Gellner, Karl Deutsch, Miroslav Hroch, Eric Hobsbawm and Benedict Anderson’s basic thesis was examined. Sequentially, it was mentioned Anthony D. Smith’s approach, who is included in the modernist theories of nationalism, but constitudes his analysis with an exceeding further reading of these basic thesis. The main
