Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the problems encountered in the process of teacher training in Turkey (1923–1954). It is a cross-sectional study. The role of the teachers fort he development of a country can not be denied. Teachers have very important roles for the next generations. Therefore, the quality of the education the teachers have in pre-service process directly affects the education process of the next generation. This increases the importance of pre-service teachers’ training. In this study, the problems in teacher training between the years of 1923 and 1954 is examined and tried to be reflected in detail. Very different trials and the results of these trials held during this painful period are tried to be examined in the study. The trials were either short or long peiod. The experience from the Republican period to 1950s show that teacher training politics should be kept away from short-term political struggles and become a state policy.
