Abstract
Batı kaligrafi geleneği, geçmişten günümüze evrilerek, oldukça dikkat çekici dönüşümler geçirmiştir ve Batı kaligrafisi ile ilgilenen günümüz sanatçı ve tasarımcıları tarafından yeni boyutlar kazanarak hem kavramsal hem de görsel anlamda kendini farklı bir yerde konumlandırma, yeniden farklı bir perspektifte değerlendirme olanağı sunmuştur. Geçirdiği bu dönüşüm, Batı kaligrafi geleneği gereği yığılarak ilerleyen ve biriken bir konsept olarak, günümüz sanatçıları için hem geçmişten faydalanma ve ilham alma, hem de bireysel algı ve yorumlamaları için önemli bir zemin haline gelmiştir. Farklı disiplinlerden beslenen günümüz sanatçıları içinde, Batı kaligrafisine farklı bir soluk getiren grafiti sanatçıları dikkat çeker. Özellikle grafiti ve kaligrafi sanatçısı Niels Shoe Meulman’ın, 2007 yılında başlattığı, yeni nesil grafiti sanatçıları tarafından da artan bir ilgi gören Calligraffiti hareketi, Batı kaligrafisi ve grafiti iş birliğinin en çarpıcı örneklerini sunan, dikkate değer bir füzyon hareketi olur. Bu harekete katılan ve kaligrafi, grafiti melez birleşmesi ile iş üreten calligraffiti sanatçıları, birer calligraffiti elçisine dönüşür. Batı kaligrafi geleneğinin dönemin ihtiyaçlarına göre, kısıtlı ve sınırlı teknik ve imkanlarla hem bütünsel anlamda hem teknik ve biçimsel anlamda günümüz grafiti kökenli sanatçıları nasıl etkilediği, Calligraffiti hareketi kurucu Niels “Shoe” Meulman ve grubun dikkat çeken üyeleri Pokras Lampas ve Said Dokins’in çalışmaları üzerinden incelenecektir.

Western calligraphy tradition has undergone remarkable transformations by evolving from the past to the present, and by gaining new dimensions by today's artists and designers who are interested in Western calligraphy, it has offered the opportunity to position itself in a different place both conceptually and visually, and to reevaluate it in a different perspective. As a concept, calligraphy accumulates according to a requirement of the Western calligraphy tradition, and this transformation has become a vital ground for today's artists to benefit from and inspire by the past that affects their perceptions and interpretation. Among today's artists fed from different disciplines, graffiti artists who bring a different breath to Western calligraphy draw attention. Graffiti and calligraphy artist Niels Shoe Meulman started the Calligraffiti movement in 2007 and attracted increasing attention to the new generation of graffiti artists. A remarkable fusion movement presents the most striking examples of Western calligraphy and graffiti collaboration. Calligraffiti artists who participate in this movement and produce work by combining calligraphy and graffiti become calligraffiti ambassadors. How the Western calligraphy tradition with limited and limited techniques and opportunities that formed according to the needs of the period affects today's graffiti artists in general -technical and formal sense is the question that will be discussed through the works of the founder of the Calligraffiti movement Niels “Shoe” Meulman, and he prominent members of the group Pokras Lampas and Said Dokins.
