Abstract
Moderniteye atfedilen özelliklerin sonucu olarak birçok eylem ve düşünce biçimi ortaya çıkmıştır. Çokkültürcülük ve fundamentalizmin her ikisi de farklı temel niteliklere sahip olsalar da aynı kaynaktan beslendikleri ve bir tepki olarak doğdukları söylenebilir. Fundamentalist hareketlerin modernleşmeden kaynaklanmasında, modernleşmenin başarısızlığı ve çözüm üretmedeki yetersizliği büyük bir etkiye sahiptir. Modernleşme sürecinde batı tecrübesinin diğer kültürlere aktarımında kullanılan yöntemin ve içeriğin uyumsuz tepkilerin gelişimine yol açtığı ifade edilmektedir. Çokkültürcülük de kısmen modernitenin bir eleştirisi olarak görülmüştür. Fundamentalizm olgusunun gelişiminde olduğu gibi çokkültürcülük de modernitenin toplumsal yapıyı dönüştürücü tekilliğe verilen bir tepki olarak anlaşılmaktadır. Her ne kadar her iki hareketin birbiriyle farklılaşan temel özellikleri olsa da aynı zamanda çokkültürcülük ve fundamentalizmin yakından ilişkili olduğu söylenebilir. Aralarındaki ilişki ise daha çok moderniteye verilen tepki ve başetme biçimleriyle ilgilidir. Modernitenin kültürel ve dinsel farklılıkları tolerans düzeyi belki de çeşitli toplumsal kesimlerce yeterli ve tatmin edici bulunmadığı görülmektedir. Sonuçta rahatsız edici olarak algılanan bir takım zorlayıcı olgusal gerçekler iki kutupsal nitelikli tepki biçimine sebep olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle her iki olgunun ortaya çıkışına ve özelliklerine aynı zamanda modernleşme süreciyle birlikte gündeme gelen bu iki olgu arasındaki ilişki çerçevesindeki tartışmalara yer verilecektir.

Abstract
As a result of the features attributed to modernity, many forms of action and thought have emerged. Although both multiculturalism and fundamentalism have different basic characteristics, it can be said that they are fed from the same source and are born as a reaction. The failure of modernization and its inability to find solutions have a great impact on the origin of fundamentalist movements from modernization. It is stated that the method and content used in the transfer of western experience to other cultures in the modernization process led to the development of incompatible reactions. Multiculturalism has also been seen, in part, as a critique of modernity. As with the development of the phenomenon of fundamentalism, multiculturalism is understood as a reaction to the singularity of modernity that transforms the social structure. Although both movements have different basic features, it can also be said that multiculturalism and fundamentalism are closely related. The relationship between them is more about the way they react and cope with modernity. It is seen that the tolerance level of cultural and religious differences of modernity is not sufficient and satisfactory, perhaps by various social segments. As a result, a number of compelling factual realities that were perceived as disturbing caused two forms of polar response. In this study, first of all, the emergence and characteristics of both phenomena will be included, as well as the discussions within the framework of the relationship between these two phenomena, which came to the fore with the modernization process.
