Abstract
Bu çalışma, John R. Searle’ün “Las Meninas and the Paradoxes of Pictorial Representation” makalesine ve Michel Foucault’nun Kelimeler ve Şeyler adlı kitabının “Arkadan Gelenler” bölümüne başvurarak kimi sanat tarihçileri tarafından klasik realist temsiliyetin başyapıtlarından biri olarak kabul gören Diego Velazquez’e ait Las Meninas tablosunun gizemlerini analiz ederek eserin sahip olduğu hangi özellikler sayesinde ısrarla sanatsal ilginin odağında durduğuna dair bir okumadır. Makalede, Foucault’nun kavranması bir hayli felsefi semantik talep eden nevi şahsına münhasır dili Meninas ekseninde alıntılanan pasajlar eşliğinde açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır.

Abstract
This study is basically an analysis of illustrious Las Meninas by Diego Velazquez in order to reveal its hidden secrets which is away from classical realistic representation. This magnificent piece has so long been mistakenly considered within realistic approach therefore in order to reveal its unorthodox realistic appearance and its hidden paradoxical aspects, this study is focused on the article “Las Meninas and the Paradoxes of Pictorial Representation” by John R. Searle and the first chapter of the book Order and Things by Michel Foucault. Within an analysis of Foucault’s exceptional language which demands very philosophical semantical view, it’s intended to analyze his passages on Meninas to understand why we are still attracted by the painting.
