Abstract

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, yabancı dil öğrenme kaygısının nedenleri, kaygının yabancı dil öğrenme sürecindeki etkisi ve kaygı-öğrenme süreci ilişkisi modellerinin ortaya konulmasıdır. Çalışmada araştırma yöntemi olarak, doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak yararlanılan kaynaklar, çoğunlukla yabancı alanyazın üzerine temellendirilmiştir. Çalışmada yabancı dil öğrenme kaygısına ilişkin öne çıkan sonuçlar şunlardır. 1- Kaygı, yabancı dil öğrenme sürecini etkileyen önemli bir unsurdur. 2- Kaygı dil öğrenme sürecini olumlu ya da olumsuz yönde etkileyebilmektedir. 3- Yabancı dil kaygısı öğrencilerin performanslarını olumsuz etkileyebilmektedir. 4- Kaygının, her zaman birey için olumsuz bir durum yaratmayan kolaylaştırıcı bir rolü ve öğrenci performansı üzerinde olumlu bir etkisi vardır. 5- Yabancı dil öğrenme kaygısı nedenlerinden öne çıkan bazıları, özgüven eksikliği, aile beklentileri, sınıf içi uygulamalar, akran ve öğretmen faktörleridir.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to point out the sources of foreign language anxiety, its effects on foreign language learning process and theoretical background of the anxiety. As data collection tool, document analysis is used. Sources used as data collection tools are mostly based on foreign literature. The prominent results of the foreign language learning anxiety in the study are as follows. 1- Anxiety is an important factor affecting the foreign language learning process. 2- Anxiety can affect the foreign language learning process positively or negatively. 3- Foreign language anxiety can negatively affect students' performance. 4- Anxiety which does not always create a negative situation for the individuals can have a facilitating role and a positive effect on students’ performance. 5- Some of the reasons of foreign language learning anxiety are lack of self-confidence, family expectations, classroom practices, peers and teachers.
