Abstract

Abstract

Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil is respected as the promoter of European style in Turkish Literature with his novels and stories. Within this context, this work focuses on the structure elements (time-space) of the themes to have shaped the plot in the stories of the author. Time and space are indispensable elements of the fiction particularly in the genres based on narration. Moving ahead achronically and chronologically within their fictional time, these stories have a psychological dimension with memories from the past, which function as the creator of the present time, and the ways in which these memories are told. In the stories where the narrator and its point of view are the determining elements, space-related issues refer to the deep structure, as they are narrated with a human-centred fiction. The space we evaluate as open or closed from a factual perspective takes form according to the mood of the story characters.
