Abstract

Bu çalışma, Harold Pinter'ın The Birthday Party (1958) ve One for the Road(1984) yapıtlarında doğrudan ve dolaylı politika etkileşimi ile ilgilidir. Yirminci yüzyılın önde gelen İngiliz oyun yazarı olan Harold Pinter, üstü kapalı fikirleri nedeniyle ve 1980lerdeki siyasi duruşundan ötürü eleştirmenler tarafından siyasi görüş değişikliklerinin yeniden yorumlanması nedeniyle toplum için her zaman bir ‘baş belası’ oldu. Pinter'ın politik tiyatrosu diğer oyun yazarlarının ölçütlerinden önemli ölçüde ayrılır; aslında bizi yukarıda belirtilen oyunlarda dolaylı politikadan doğrudan politikaya gittikçe itip bu şekilde yorumlamamızı sağlayan da budur. Dilin ideolojik niteliğine odaklanmak, dil kullanımının toplumsal olarak belirlendiği ve sağduyu varsayımlarına dayandığı görüşüne kendimizi adamak demektir.

Abstract

This paper deals with the interplay of the direct and indirect politics in Pinter’s The Birthday Party(1958) and One for the Road (1984). Harold Pinter, a twentieth century leading British playwright, was always a public annoyance due to his obscure ideas as a citizen and his political canon which in the1980s led critics to make re-interpretations of the changes in Pinter’s political views. The politics of Pinter’s drama significantly differs from those in the canons of the other playwrights what, in fact, made us exhibit the gradual shift from the implied politics to the direct politics in the above mentioned plays. To focus on ideological nature of language means committing ourselves to the view that language use is socially determined and rests upon common-sense assumptions.
