Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of museum visits, organized within the scope of geography education, on students' learning processes and course outcomes. The research, conducted with the participation of 83 students from Diyarbakır Şehit Abdulvahap Çokur Anatolian High School, examined the visit to the Inner Castle Museum using a descriptive survey method. The findings showed that museum visits had comprehensive and positive effects on students' academic achievement, motivation towards the course, and spatial awareness. 70% of the students stated that their interest in geography increased after the visit, and 88% indicated that museums are an effective extracurricular learning environment. It was determined that the visits are of strategic importance in concretizing abstract subjects such as Cultural Geography, Nature and Environmental Awareness, and Economic Geography, and that they strengthen the sense of local belonging. One of the most critical findings of the research is that 54% of the students did not prepare before the visit; this reveals that the planning phase of museum pedagogy needs to be carried out more effectively in schools. In conclusion, museum visits, as a method of reinforcing theoretical knowledge, should be more effectively integrated into the curriculum through school-museum collaboration.
