Abstract
Grotesk kelimesi, sanatta çarpıcı ve yadırgatıcı etkiler üretmek için kullanışlı olmuştur. Sanat tarihi boyunca grotesk konusunda farklı görüşler kendisini göstermiştir. Bu çalışma grotesk formun resim sanatında görevini anlama amacındadır. Çalışma grotesk formu, kültür tarihi boyunca kazandığı anlamları anlatmaktadır. Tuhaf, merak uyandıran, abartılı grotesk form, güzelin yerini alan bir anlam kazanmıştır. On sekizinci yüzyıldan itibaren grotesk form önemli görülmüştür. Modern kültürde ise grotesk, insanın vahşi yönünü ifadesi olarak kabul edilmiştir. Grotesk modern sanatta, aklın dışına çıkmak, toplumun kaybettiği inancı anlatmanın aracı olmuştur. Grotesk, çağdaş kültürde anormal ve tiksinti verici olan ile karşılanmıştır. Tüm bu değişimler farklılıklar içermektedir. Ancak bu çalışma groteskin değişmez yönleri olduğunu anlatma amacındadır. Buna göre grotesk, yadırgatıcı ve şaşırtıcı bir estetizmi içermektedir. Bildik anlamda dünyanın farklılaştırılmış yeniden yorumunu üretme kapasitesine sahiptir. Bu kapsamda resim sanatından seçilmiş örnekler etrafında grotesk formun anlamını açıklamaya çalışan bu araştırma groteskin kitle kültüründe sanat için önemli bir ifade aracı olduğu sonucuna varmıştır.

Abstract
The word grotesque has been used to produce striking and strange effects in art. Different views on grotesque have shown themselves throughout the history of art. This study aims to understand the role of grotesque form in painting. The study explains the meanings that grotesque form has gained throughout the history of culture. The strange, intriguing, exaggerated grotesque form has gained a meaning that replaces beauty. Grotesque form has been considered important since the eighteenth century. In modern culture, grotesque has been accepted as an expression of the wild side of man. In modern art, grotesque has been a means of going beyond reason and expressing the belief that society has lost. Grotesque has been met with the abnormal and disgusting in contemporary culture. All these changes include differences. However, this study aims to explain that grotesque has unchanging aspects. Accordingly, grotesque contains a strange and surprising aestheticism. It has the capacity to produce a differentiated reinterpretation of the world in the familiar sense. In this context, this research, which tries to explain the meaning of the grotesque form around selected examples from the art of painting, has concluded that the grotesque is an important means of expression for art in mass culture.
