Abstract
Doğaçlama, caz müziğinin performans pratikleri içerisinde müziğin önemli bir kesiti olarak yer almaktadır. Caz müzisyenleri kimi zaman doğaçlamayı müziğin bütünlüğünü sağlayan en önemli unsur olarak yaklaşabilmektedir. Geleneksel caz doğaçlaması için ana melodinin ritmik yapısı, ana melodiyi taşıyan akor zinciri (chord progression), ana melodinin cümle örgütlenmesi (formal yapısı) zengin ve çeşitlenebilir materyal olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bright Siz Life, Pat Metheny’nin ilk albümü içinde yer almış ve albüm yayınlandıktan sonra caz müzisyenleri için kaynak materyal olma özelliği taşıyan Real Book’lar içinde yerini almış önemli bir parçadır. Çalışmanın amacı, gitaristin doğaçlama eylemi içinde melodik, ritmik ve armonik tercihlerinin müzikal akış içindeki devinimiyle form içindeki bütünü nasıl oluşturduğunu incelemektir. Çalışma, incelemeyi olabildiğince detaylı kılmak adına Bright Size Life parçasının solo kesitini kapsamaktadır ve gitar solosuyla sınırlandırılmıştır. Davul ve bas hatları inceleme kapsamına alınmamıştır. Çalışma yöntem olarak, armonik, ritmik ve melodik bir analizdir. Gitaristin mikro yapılardan başlayarak, ritmik tabanlı armonik cümleleri nasıl oluşturduğu incelenmiştir.

Abstract
Improvisation is an important part of the performance practices of jazz music. Jazz musicians sometimes approach improvisation as the most important element that ensures the integrity of the music. For traditional jazz improvisation, the rhythmic structure of the main melody, the chord progression that carries the main melody, and the phrase organization (formal structure) of the main melody are considered as rich and diversifiable materials. Bright Siz Life is an important piece that was included in Pat Metheny's first album and took its place in Real Books, which is a source material for jazz musicians after the album was released. The aim of the study is to examine how the guitarist's melodic, rhythmic and harmonic preferences in the improvisational act form the whole within the form through the movement of the musical flow. In order to make the analysis as detailed as possible, the study covers the solo section of Bright Size Life and is limited to the guitar solo. Drum and bass lines are not included in the study. Methodologically, the study is a harmonic, rhythmic and melodic analysis. Starting from microstructures, how the guitarist creates rhythmically based harmonic phrases is analyzed.
