Abstract
Sinema icadından günümüze kadar eğlendirme, kendini keşfetme, propaganda yapma gibi çeşitli hedefler doğrultusunda kullanılmıştır. Bu hedefler güdülürken içinde bulunduğu dönemden ve yaratıcısından izler taşımıştır. Dolayısıyla sinema çoğu zaman politik bir derinliğe de sahip olmuştur. Korku türü de çoğu zaman siyasi bir perspektife sahip olmuştur. George A. Romero da filmlerini politik bir düzleme oturtmuş ve filmlerinin temel konularını kapitalizme, ırkçılığa, militarizme ve muhafazakarlığa yönelik eleştiriler oluşturur.Night of the Living Dead (NOTLD, 1968) filmini odağa alan bu makale, Amerikan korku sinemasındaki politik unsurları özellikle de seçilen yönetmen ve dönem çerçevesinde incelemektir. Çalışmada ideolojik film çözümleme yöntemi aracılığıyla, seçilen filmlerin dönemsel sosyokültürel yapı, sınıfsal ilişkiler ve Romero’nun politik yaklaşımı üzerindeki etkileri analiz edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Amerikan korku sineması ile Romero’nun filmlerinde ideolojik arka planın belirgin bir rol oynadığı saptanmıştır. Amerikan korku sineması, muhafazakâr düşünceleri güçlendiren bir yapı üzerine kurulurken, Romero’nun bu değerlere karşı durarak aile, ordu ve milliyetçilik gibi unsurları eleştirdiği tespit edilmiştir. Çalışma, Hollywood gibi egemen yapıya hizmet eden bir sinema sisteminin içinde bu sisteme aykırı bir yönetmen olan George Romero üzerine yoğunlaşmış ve politika ile sinema ilişkisini korku türü üzerinden değerlendirmesiyle katkı sağlamayı amaçlamıştır.

Abstract
Since its invention, cinema has been used for various purposes such as entertainment, self-discovery and propaganda. While pursuing these goals, it has carried traces of the period and its creator. Therefore, cinema has often had a political depth. The horror genre has also often had a political perspective. George A. Romero also set his films on a political plane, and the main subjects of his films are criticisms of capitalism, racism, militarism and conservatism.Focusing on the film Night of the Living Dead (NOTLD, 1968), this article aims to examine the political elements in American horror cinema, especially within the framework of the chosen director and period. Through the method of ideological film analysis, the study analyzes the effects of the selected films on the sociocultural structure of the period, class relations and Romero's political approach. As a result, it was found that ideological background plays a significant role in American horror cinema and Romero's films. While American horror cinema is based on a structure that reinforces conservative ideas, Romero stands against these values and criticizes elements such as family, military and nationalism. The study focuses on George Romero, a director who is against this system within a cinema system that serves the dominant structure such as Hollywood, and aims to contribute by evaluating the relationship between politics and cinema through the horror genre.
