Abstract
Tanzimat’tan itibaren roman, hikâye, tiyatro gibi pek çok yeni tür Türk edebiyatına girerken Türk okurunun yabancısı olduğu temalar da bu türlerle birlikte girmiştir. Türk okurunun Tanzimat’la birlikte tanıdığı bu temalardan birisi de Frenklere özgü menhus bir âdet olan düellodur. Dönem yazınında, özellikle kurmaca tipi eserlerde düelloya sık sık yer verilmesine rağmen bu alanda herhangi bir çalışma yapılmamıştır. Bu çalışmada Cumhuriyet öncesi Türk romanlarında “düello” konusu incelenmektedir. Nitel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı araştırmada, durum çalışması araştırma deseni/modeli tercih edilmiş, veri toplama tekniği olarak doküman analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma neticesinde Türk geleneğinde münferit birkaç hadise dışında düello pratiğine rastlanmamakla birlikte özellikle Tanzimat’ın iki romancısı Ahmet Midhat ve Hüseyin Rahmi’nin eserlerinde sık sık düelloya yer verdikleri tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract
Since the Tanzimat period, many new genres such as novels, stories and plays have entered Turkish literature and brought the themes that were unfamiliar to Turkish readers. One such theme is "the duel", which is a peculiar custom largely specific to the Franks. Although duel is frequently mentioned in the Western literature of the period, especially in fiction works, no study has been carried out on its presence in Turkish literature. In this study, the subject of "duel" in pre-Republican Turkish novels is examined. The study used qualitative research method and case study in its design and employed document analysis as the primary source of data collection. It concluded that the practice of duel has not been encountered in the Turkish tradition, except for a few isolated works. Two novelists of the Tanzimat period, Ahmet Midhat and Hüseyin Rahmi frequently included duels in their works constituting the major exceptions.
