Abstract
Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarında yer verilen toplumsal hafıza unsurlarının ele alınarak incelenmesidir. Araştırma metodolojik olarak nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden birisi olan doküman incelemesi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Veri kaynağı olarak 2022-2023 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında ortaokullarda Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde kullanılan 5., 6. ve 7. sınıf ders kitapları baz alınmıştır. Araştırmacıların hazırladığı “Toplumsal Hafıza Unsurları İnceleme Formu” kullanılarak veri kaynağı olan ders kitapları tahkik edilmiş ve bunun sonucunda ulaşılan veriler betimsel analize tabi tutulmuştur. Yapılan analizler neticesinde ulus kimliğin inşasında Sosyal Bilgiler dersinin öneminin kitaplarda bulunan resimler, metinler ve etkinliklerle toplumsal hafıza bloğumuzda yer alan unsurlardan birçoğunun öğrencilere kazandırılmasının amaçlandığı görülmüştür. Bu anlamda verilen bilgilerin resimlerle desteklenip, öğrenen merkezli etkinlikler vasıtasıyla desteklendiği de tesbit edilmiştir. Toplumsal hafzıya referansla ele alınan konuların daha çok Osmanlı tarihi ve Cumhuriyet’e ilişkin olduğu ancak bunların yanısıra Türk bilim insanları, askerler, zafer günleri, bayramlar gibi sembolik bir hafıza mekânı olarak niteleyebileceğimiz unsurları içerdiği çalışma sonucunda gözlemlenmiştir.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the elements of social memory in middle school Social Studies textbooks. The research was methodologically conducted using document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data source was based on the 5th, 6th and 7th grade textbooks used in the Social Studies course in secondary schools in the 2022-2023 academic year. Using the "Elements of Social Memory Review Form" prepared by the researchers, the textbooks that are the source of data were investigated and the data obtained as a result were subjected to descriptive analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the importance of the Social Studies course in the construction of national identity was aimed to provide students with many of the elements in our social memory block with the pictures, texts, and activities in the books. In this sense, it was also determined that the information given was supported by pictures and supported by learner-centered activities. As a result of the study, it was observed that the topics addressed with reference to social memory are mostly related to Ottoman history and the Republic, but also include elements that we can characterize as a symbolic memory space such as Turkish scientists, soldiers, victory days, and holidays.
