Abstract

Studies in teacher qualifications are becoming increasingly important in many countries of the world. These studies discuss the competencies required at both national and universal levels to provide common points in pre-service and in-service training and education processes of teachers from different perspectives. Studies on qualifications do not only provide a road map for teacher educators, and but they also provide an essential resource for teacher education planning. The topics such as which competences the teachers need to acquire in their field of teaching and common competencies for all teachers are the main subjects of the qualification studies. To provide a comparative analysis of different contexts that can make contributions to the teacher education process in Turkey is the primary purpose of the study. For this purpose, the concept of competence in teacher education was compiled from various sources by following the document review research method. Firstly, qualification studies in teacher education in Turkey have been collected following the explanations in the documents. In the last part of the review, qualification studies in the European Union were evaluated with the help of the European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL), and the European Profile for Language Teacher Education (European Profile for Language Teacher Education a Frame of Reference).
