Abstract

Viola is a member of the violin family, although its roots are based on string instruments such as viola pompasa, viola d’amore, which appeared in earlier periods, has become the closest state to the present in the classical period. In the beginning, it was used as a complementary element in chamber music and orchestra, and gained its solo identity later than the violin. Therefore, it took time for the formation of a unique solo repertoire. In the Baroque period, there was only one viola concerto known for viola (G.P. Telemann, G major Viola Concerto). However, considering the repertoire shortage in the baroque and classical periods, the transcription of works composed for other instruments belonging to these periods for viola is important. This study includes biography of A.Stamitz and analysis of the viola transcription of the F Major Viola d’amore Concerto, originally composed by Anton Stamitz, a member of the Stamitz family.
