Abstract

In this study which examines the relationships between individual's authoritarian tendencies, empathy levels and perception of parental attitudes, a quantitative and relational model was used. The sample of the study consisted of 293 students who were determined by cluster sampling among Marmara University undergraduate students. In the study, EMBU-C (Egna Minnen Barndoms Uppfostran), Basic Empathy Scale, New General Authoritarianism Scale were used. The statistical analysis and analysis of all data encoded in the computer were done by SPSS 15.0 program. As a result of the analyzes, a positive meaningful relationship was found the EMBU-C Emotional Warmth (Mother) subscale scores and students’ basic empathy levels. A significant negative correlation was found between the EMBU-C Emotional Warmth (Father) subscale and New General Authoritarianism Scale scores. As a result of the Pearson analysis conducted to determine whether there was a significant relationship between the scores obtained from the New General Authoritarianism Scale and the scores obtained from the Basic Empathy Scale, the relationship between the variables was not found meaningful
