Abstract

Gül İrepoğlu had featured the Tulip Era, which has a separate place in the Ottoman history in novel, Unto the Tulip Gardens: My Shadow The Tulip Era is a period in which a progress has been made in all the arts from music to architecture, the printing house has been brought to our country, the translation movement has begun and a new city order has been put into effect in Istanbul and thus important innovations have been realized. In this respect, it is seen that it has been featured in various genres in Turkish literature. Gül İrepoğlu sets her novel in a different way than the previous Tulip Era novels. In previous novels, the era was described around Sultan Ahmet, Damat İbrahim Pasha, Nedim and rebel group acting together with Patrona Halil. In the plot, historical records were adhered to, but human psychology had been neglected. What is important in a historical novel, however, is to give the psychological experience of the people who had faced with a tragic situation in history. Gül İrepoğlu achieves this by conducting a different setting for her novel. In the novel setting, Sultan Ahmet and Levni are brothers. In this way, the author had not only broken the stereotype in the novels about the Tulip Era, but also focused on human psychology. Designing Levni as a hero in the forefront, she revealed both the process of building an artist's own self and various features of the art of miniature.
