Abstract

The main aim of this research was to investigate the views of graduate students regarding their master programs in terms of its contribution to the gains stated in the Turkish higher education graduate qualifications framework. Phenomenology was employed in this research to explore master students’ views of their master programs. The study group consisted of 25 master’s degree students from 9 different programs of Marmara University Institute of Educational Sciences. The participants remarked some of the contributions of their programs as, (a) to develop themselves in theoretical knowledge, practical academic knowledge (research skills etc.) and practical knowledge of teaching (b) to gain new perspectives on their fields of study and doctorate education, (c) to recognize their limitations in terms of knowledge and skills (research, presentations etc.) and criticizing their limits; (d) to develop their current critical thinking skills. Master students also remarked some of the problems toward their programs as; (a) Time management/limitation problems especially for the ones working as teachers, (b) The problems in foreign language competency, (c) Incompetency of research skills (planning/conducting and writing/reporting a research).
