Abstract

In parallel with the increasing population, developing technology and industrialization, electricity consumption in the world and in Turkey is increasing. This urges both producers and users to choose energy sources which are less harmful or environmentally harmless. Among renewable energy sources, wind energy has the greatest potential and area of use. Wind energy is a domestic, natural and non-ending, non-radioactive, non-toxic source which is not dependent on import. It can be supplied in the same amount in the future but it does not lead to acid rain or atmospheric warming or produce CO2 emissions or harm the natural flora and human health, and it provides fossil fuel-saving, has a rapid technological development and brings foreign exchange earning. The fact that the electricity generated in wind energy is very economical also increases the interest in this energy. In this study; the potential of wind power was investigated as a source of renewable energy in particular context of Bilecik province, which is located in the centre and northwest of Turkey. In this scope, Metristepe Wind Power Plant, which is the only wind power plant currently operating within Bilecik province, was examined.
