Abstract

Following the migration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Makkah to Medina in 622, Muslims started to become a politically dominant power. Muhammad (pbuh) declared a document called The Charter of Medina after negotiating with Muslim, Jewish and Non-believing tribes about the rules of co-existence in justice and equality. Besides, it is decreed in the 29th verse of the Surat at-Tawba that those with other religions like Jewish, Christian and etc. can live in the same country with Muslims as long as they pay the tribute. It is through commitment to such references that Muslims have always accepted it as something usual throughout the history to live together with people from other religions.
