Nations have brought forward their existence in cultural context as well as musical context with the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Employment of indigenous musical elements in International Art Music is such a process. Process of change which has begun with the effects of Enlightenment and the French Revolution has continued with new inventions and the Industrial Revolution, it with the nation-state model and modernization. The power of local musical elements in the search of ethnic and cultural identities was discovered in works which have focused particularly on music. Traditional folk arts have been used effectively in building a new national identity based thereon in regions such as Central and Eastern Europe which are in need of bringing forward their autonomous identity.
